Works in progress: oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas

A new series that I started last summer. These are small studies no larger than 12x12 ea. 

They are a new direction for me, and one that I have started and put aside a few times before now. With the new year just underway, I am set to create more, larger works in this series. I have always been drawn to the colorfield, and minimalist painters from the abstract expressionist period, and find that this approach to landscape is more suited to my sensibilities. I do not care for traditional landscape painting, as it tends to be uninteresting and doesn't challenge the viewer. Not that a minimalist approach is better or evocative, I find it a bit tricky and hard to (successfully) pull off,  something that is worth my investment of time.
